Summer Show

Well it looks like word is spreading like wild fire about this summers UCU show. We can't wait and are really excited for this new addition. We ask you from the bottom of our hearts to be patient with us. We are working on the details for the show, revising the application so that it is simpler for you all to use and hashing out the details. We aim to please and want to make sure we are good to go before we start accepting applications. So we do not have applications up YET but will soon. Check back often and as soon as we do we will also gladly let you all know. Until then, please hold your questions. We have been bombarded with emails, as soon as we know, you will too. Thank you! Veteran freelance writer, author, and blogger Michelle Goodman offers tips on writing an irresistible media pitch and talks about tools you can use to put your business in front of hundreds of lead-hungry reporters, producers, and bloggers. For those of you not yet blogging or taking advantage of social media tools like Twitter, she’ll discuss how to position yourself as an expert online so that reporters start seeking you out.

Crafty followed by Comedy - First Thursday Event

Urban Craft Uprising and the Comedy Underground are teaming up to bring you the Art of Comedy. When the Comedy Underground decided to open it's doors to local artists who use humor and beguiling sensibilities in their work, they called on Urban Craft Uprising, organizers of the largest indie craft show in the Pacific Northwest. A dozen indie crafters and artists will be vending their goods (apparel, jewelry, toys, art, kid's stuff, etc.) in the Comedy Underground lobby located at 109 S. Washington St. (at Occidental), followed by a full night of comedians bringing the funny. Please join us for our first curated event, March 5th from 6:00 to 9:00 pm - all part of the First Thursday events in Pioneer Square. Come for the Crafty, stay for the Comedy.

This Friday at Schmancy

This Friday at Schmancy we have a new show going up with some amazing artists. They are Betsy Walton, Jenna Colby, Jen Corace and Sohalia Adela. For a little teaser we have a piece here by Betsy Walton. The show is from 6:00 to 9:00pm. Hope to see some friendly faces then. We will have a preview going up at noon on Friday here.

This show is multi- layered in meaning as it asks the viewer to explore each artist’s expression of the notion of friends and connections, while also noticing the common symbols and themes that appear as a group. The artists come from all over the country, and most do not know each other except for an affiliation to artist Rebecca DeVere. “ I always wonder what common imagery and symbolism will be in all of the artist’s work, and the commentary that makes on our current culture”, says DeVere. The power in a group show such as this is in the greater meaning revealed unknowingly by the artists. -Lisa Lamoreaux
